Times Colonist Front Page – Hartland Sludge Plant

I attended most of the meeting with the wastewater committee at the CRD yesterday.  It was a very interesting meeting that had the committee members arguing about the formula of how each community was going to be assessed for various charges.  After that, the arguments started regarding the suitability of Hartland as a site.  You can read in the Times Colonist today on the front page about the meeting.  From the perspective of the Willis Point community, we were talked about several times in that if the CRD did go ahead with the Hartland site, Willis Point needed to be consulted regarding the plan – and not treated like Esquimalt – a very interesting perspective.

Having said that, many of the committee members aren’t in favour of the Hartland site and want more time to find some other site that is more logistically appropriate.  The vote was very close at 7-6 to put the brakes on the plan but they are still going ahead at this point.
We are still fighting to keep ahead of the sludge plant issue.  We have had many letters and emails from the community that are not supporting the CRD Hartland site and that is what we continue to base our direction for the committee on.
