Mandate, Vision and Operational Plan for WPVFD

Mandate

Willis Point Volunteer Fire Department responds to the following types of calls:

  • fire and fire alarms
  • medical emergencies
  • motor vehicle incidents
  • hazardous materials via coordination with CRD HAZMAT
  • rescue
  • public service calls

Willis Point VFD has a cooperative emergency response relationship with its bordering neighbours;  Saanich, Central Saanich, and Highlands. Willis Point VFD provides backup services to  Highlands Fire and Rescue via a mutual-aid agreement.

Services are delivered by on-call volunteers on a twenty-four hour, seven days a week basis.  The Department has a minimum of 15 volunteer members and meets the requirements of the Fire Underwriters Survey for Dwelling Protection Grade 3B.

Community education is provided through fire and safety bulletins in the ‘Pointer’ newsletter and on the willispoint.ca website.

Our mission is to enhance the community’s livability through service excellence in prevention, education and emergency response.

Vision

To be a model small community volunteer fire department through continual learning programs and training with a prudent and carefully planned budget for quality equipment and educational resources.

Operational Plan for WPVFD 2016 to 2018

  1. Strive for First Responder Level 3 certification of all members.
  2. Compliance with Office of the Fire Commissioner’s “playbook” to the exterior operations level.
  3. Document all department operations in a set of Operating Guidelines
  4. Only take action on training, equipment purchase, and maintenance for which Operational Guidelines have been created.
  5. Continued move toward electronic recordkeeping and reporting for training and maintenance.
  6. Provide firefighters a forum to learn and contribute to the department operations; a team approach.
  7. Firefighter health and safety above all else.
