Substantial changes to the way volunteer fire departments are operated could be mandated in the not too distant future according to a 2009 report called Transforming the Fire Service and follow-up response and report (2012) from the BC Fire Commissioner. These changes are primarily about the safety for the firefighters and quality of service to the public . For WPVFD, a key component of the report pertains to training standards and how the support to achieve these standards is a high priority for various groups including the Office of the Fire Commissioner, the BC Government, the Fire Chiefs Association of BC, and the Volunteer Firefighters Association of BC to name a few.
All firefighters and community leaders are encouraged to read this report as it provides key information for planning and directing the WPVFD.
