This is an ongoing pursuit to try to clear away this highly invasive and flammable plant. It’s important to cut it and not disturb the earth as this will germinate seeds, read more about it at https://www.broombusters.org/how-to-cut-broom/ The recommendation is to wait until it is in bloom to cut. Please come to clean up day to see our new invasive plant tool available for loan (best used on damp soil).

Support Saanich Inlet Protection Society – Join or donate to this very active registered charity that seeks to conserve the very rare ecosystem of Saanich Inlet. They are tackling many issues including abandoned boats, industrial activity, herring protection, watershed and biosolids. More members helps to increase their clout. There are only 3 basins in the world like Saanich Inlet and it is studied for it’s geological importance. Learn more about why the Inlet is so important.
We are grateful to WP resident, Rick Ellis, for taking the time to share his expertise to draft planning ideas for extreme weather.
